The most common treatments before the
diagnosis of Burning Mouth Syndrome are mainly based on
anxiolytics, analgesics, antihypertensives, antidepressants,
or corticosteroids.
These products do not release the patient from the daily
hassle and constant burning and pain in the tongue, but
could ease some stress or anxiety that commonly experience
this type of patients.
Studies in
1.284 patients separated into 2 equal groups,
with Burning Mouth Syndrome who reported suffering from
burning, itching and pain in areas of the tongue during the
day, they applied for a period of 3 and 6 months Xeros TM ®,
4 and 2 times daily respectively. The groups were composed
of both sexes being most women over 45 years.
In group 1 (application 4 times daily). The first results
were obtained at 3 weeks of starting treatment, in group 2 (application
2 times daily) after 8 weeks.
The outcome at 3 months of the study was that 92% of
patients in both groups showed a decrease of discomfort
after 3 months of treatment. Some 8% said not feel any
change. At the end of the study (6 months) 94% of patients
manifest the total elimination of symptoms as against 6% who
mention only a significant and very tolerable.
